Kolyada

Коляда
Hello, friends! Today I want to tell you a story about Slavic Christmas :)
And to wish a Merry Christmas! Щасливого Різдва!

Kolyada - Slavic  holiday of winter solstice and the eponymous god. Celebrated Slavic people in ancient times the winter solstice (21 or 22 December) - not always in the same day as all the other major Slavic holidays (Kupala, Shrovetide) associated with four major annual astronomical events. Now Christmas in Russia, Ukraine and all Orthodox celebrated in 6-7 of January. Because of Julian Calendar.

Kolyada - is a new year cycle. New sun appears an the image of the child. The baby - it's the sun's disk, anciently called Kolo (circle). It means a seasonal turn, dying of old and the arrival of strong young man.
On the day of the winter solstice people brought home the sheaves and the
straw dolls and sing songs - carols with the wishes of wellbeing in the house and asking for gifts - cakes and pies. Caroling people dressed in a bear, horse, goat, cow, and it is an ancient symbol of abundance.
